April 2012

The Hero Chronicles: A Complete CollectionI finished reading this series April 20th.  The story takes place in the future and includes traveling into the past.  The use of the present-past provides you with the history behind what is happening now.  The main characters in this story are teenagers who all have abilities and powers.  There are fairies, elves, mystical creatures, good and evil.  The 2 central characters are the Princess of Destiny and the Silver Knight.  As you read you see them go from immature teens to a more mature young adult as they deal with quests and the fight to save humanity.  I enjoyed this YA series so much.  I look forward to reading more from Christine Schulze.

I finished reading this book April 22.  This is a very good read.   I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good read that involves gambling, politics and murder.  The prologue caught my interest as it started the story off with a murder.  The author kept my interest right to the very end.  I look forward to future books by this author.

Oppression (Children of the Gods, #1) This first book in the Children of the Gods series was an enjoyable read. For a new author, Jessica has created a unique story line. I was intrigued by the use of Greek Mythology with modern day. Mixing old lore with modern details and characters. This was such an interesting read. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Blow Out (FBI Thriller, #9) This was an interesting twist on an FBI investigative novel. A killer, a ghost and the people affected. Interesting story line that was a pleasure to read. Very entertaining story.

Vanish in Plain Sight (Amish Suspense, #2)This is the first book I have read written by this author. I enjoyed this story so much and didn't want it to end. The story delves into the Amish culture and includes the non-Amish living in Dutch Pennsylvania. Throughout the story you read about the ways and beliefs of the Amish. As well as follow an interesting story about the mysterious disappearance of a young child's mother. This young mother was a banned Amish woman who left the church to marry a non-Amish young man. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Murmurs: Gathered Stories Vol. One This book was a surprise to me. The stories were dark and twisted. Though I normally do not read stories of this nature, I enjoyed reading these. The author has such a way with words and sentence structure that I felt drawn into the stories. The base emotions brought to life throughout this book are very compelling.

Die Before I Wake Laurie Breton is so good at weaving a story that grabs you and sucks you into the pages. You read faster and faster wondering what twist in the plot she will introduce next. Die Before I Wake is a wonderful Romance/Mystery and I recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys reading this genre. Other then the basics of the story I will not give details as I don't want to ruin the story for anyone who will want to read it.

The story is about a 30 year old woman who goes on a Cruise and meets Mr. Wonderful/Mr. Right. All seems great until they arrive in Maine to be met by his brother at the airport. They arrive at the house to his mother who is not happy or welcoming to have the new wife there. He has 2 young daughters. The youngest just wants to have a mommy to love and tuck her in. His oldest daughter is quieter, more withdrawn and makes these gloomy announcements to the new "wife/mom".

From there you are dragged into the story behind the 1st wife and how she died. Add to this the mysterious accidents the new wife suffers and you find yourself unable to put the book down.

Charactered Pieces: stories Charactered Pieces is such an interesting read. Some of the stories are very disturbing in nature. The gritty, stark and sometimes depraved nature of how these stories are written is both disturbing and provoking. I had many emotions and thoughts as I went from story to story. The Camel Of Morocco stands out as one that made me feel the most disgust as I visualized the bloodletting and drinking. The story that I enjoyed the most is The Camp for the sheer human emotion felt at the loss of a loved one and how those left behind deal with the pain of this loss.

Many thanks to the author for bringing these stories to publication.

P.S.: I also want to thank the author Caleb J Ross for providing me with a free edownload copy of his book.

Impending Doom

I participated in this author's book giveaway and received this autographed copy from Kya Aliana.  I want to congratulate you on publishing your first novel. I just finished reading it early this morning. I enjoyed your story so very much. You show great maturity in your writing for such a young lady and I am very impressed. I look forward to reading more of your work over the years.

My thoughts on the story itself. I like how this author incorporated pieces from other vampire stories into this once. The reference to the glittery skin as depicted in the Twilight Series for one example. I have read a lot of variations and yours fits in very well with all of them. The young man who meets and falls in love with a fledgling vampire girl. Then his desire to save her from her fate and destroy the head vampire so she can become human again. The ending was a very nice touch as I was unsure what was going to happen to the young lovers and his little sister. I won't say more as I don't want to ruin the story for anyone who has yet to read it.

Very well done Kya. Thank you so much for giving me an opportunity to read your first novel.

Gents with no cents  I want to thank the Author for participating in the Goodreads Book Giveaway. I was happy to be a winner and receive a copy of Ron DeLegge II's book.

I enjoyed reading this non-fiction look at Wall Street and investing. actually found myself laughing as I was learning a little about the world of investing.

The poem that started on page 41 and ended on page 42 made me laugh so much. Brought back memories of how I felt a couple years ago when my investments were losing money. At the time I didn't find it funny, but the poem definitely helped me find the humor in it. Thanks for sharing it in your book.

I recommend this book "Gents With No Cents" to anyone who wants to learn how Wall Street and investments work that is written with humor but provides you with information.
